After 33 Years of Decorated Service, Gen. Michael Flynn Just Silenced by Robert Mueller

Published

on

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn is an honorable man who served his country with distinction for 33 years and was pushed into an alleged perjury trap by Obama administration holdovers. His reputation, career, and financial security stripped from him in tatters, Flynn was considered an acceptable casualty in the efforts to take down the Trump administration. Some have wondered why Flynn has not been more vocal in his own defense while he awaits sentencing. It appears there may be a good reason for that.

It appears that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has effectively silenced Flynn. Given the circumstances of his plea deal, Flynn cannot speak publicly about anything related to the charges against him. Doing so could void his plea agreement with Mueller’s team and open him up to further legal proceedings that he is financially unable to defend himself against.

After allegedly being pushed into a perjury trap by Obama administration, holdovers at the Justice Department concocted an unorthodox legal rationale for subjecting Flynn to an FBI interrogation a mere four days after he took office. They then tested Flynn’s exact recollection of the conversations while the FBI agents had transcripts of the calls intercepted by the National Security Agency.

In other words, the Justice Department was arguably never actually seeking information about what Flynn said to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Intelligence agencies already had that information. Instead, Flynn was being quizzed on his precise recollection of the conversations and was then nailed for lying when his recollection deviated from the transcripts. Now after working his entire career as a civil servant on a government salary, Flynn has been forced to spend over one million dollars in an effort to defend himself against these charges.

This massive financial burden has forced him to sell his home in Alexandria, Virginia, and move into a family home in Rhode Island. Bankrupted, and his character and reputation in tatters, all for the supposed crime of misleading the FBI about a perfectly legal conversation he had, as incoming national security adviser, with the former Russian ambassador to the U.S.

Flynn made a single statement to the media regarding the charges on December 1, 2017, stating: “After over 33 years of military service to our country, including nearly five years in combat away from my family, and then my decision to continue to serve the United States, it has been extraordinarily painful to endure these many months of false accusations of “treason” and other outrageous acts. Such false accusations are contrary to everything I have ever done and stood for. But I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right. My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel’s Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country. I accept full responsibility for my actions.”

Flynn had long been skeptical about the unchecked powers of the United States intelligence community and upon being chosen as President Trump’s national security adviser, he had several foreign policy agenda items he wanted to prioritize, including – ending the Iran deal, moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Conservative Review reports on how that may have been a reason Flynn became a target and why it may have been why Mueller is working so hard to silence Flynn:

“Remember that the charges against Flynn stem from his advocacy for a detente with Russia, in addition to his reported lobbying against an anti-Israel United Nations resolution, which the Obama administration infamously endorsed through omission by abstaining from the vote. Neither of those activities are illegal or even immoral. In fact, foreign policy observers can be left to conclude that Gen. Flynn was merely acting in America’s best interests.

“In order to come to the conclusion that Flynn apparently misled the FBI, the Obama intelligence community wiretapped Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador. Those conversations were then leaked to the press by elements of the intelligence community, in gross violation of federal law. The FBI review found no evidence of wrongdoing by Gen. Flynn, except for the charge of lying to the FBI, a charge that is now reportedly being disputed by the agents who interviewed him.

[…]

“There was one more priority item for Flynn. Through his experience as a general in foreign war zones, he found that there were several fractures in the intelligence cycle, which harmed U.S. troops’ ability to succeed on the battlefield. As national security adviser, Flynn intended to conduct an audit on the intelligence community as a whole. A full audit of the U.S. intelligence community’s activities has not been completed since 1975, following the Nixon administration’s Watergate scandal.

“While serving in the Obama administration, Flynn’s earlier attempts at intelligence reform infuriated the upper echelons of the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency. Flynn’s enemies list continued to grow when, as Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) director, he testified in front of the Congress and challenged the Obama White House narrative that al Qaeda had been “decimated.” The Obama administration forced him into early retirement shortly thereafter.

“It became quite clear that the incoming national security adviser posed a direct challenge to the fourth branch of government — the unaccountable Washington bureaucrat class, including the intelligence community, which some have come to refer to as the “deep state.”

“A man who has spent his entire life dedicated to his country, who has served in some of the world’s most dangerous war zones on behalf of the United States, has been targeted for destruction. Robert Mueller’s team of Democrat prosecutors — using unethical wiretaps, along with the now-contested testimony of wholly corrupt FBI officials — has silenced Gen. Michael Flynn.

“Some of Flynn’s associates have suggested that he should set up a GoFundMe drive to help with his tremendous legal expenditures, in addition to his legal defense fund. The former DIA director has outright refused, on moral grounds. “He refuses to do it. He is an honorable man and will not ask for money,” a person close to Flynn tells CR, on condition of anonymity due to the legal situation.

“After being intimidated into pleading guilty for lying to the FBI — when the charges continue to fall flat under increased scrutiny — a lifelong patriot who has committed virtually zero wrongdoing now faces the prospect of a multi-year prison term.

“The intelligence community and Mueller’s team have used leaks to the media and contacts with members of the TV pundit class to recklessly attribute labels to Gen. Flynn. Without evidence, we have heard for years now that Flynn has colluded with the Russians, with some even claiming he committed a form of treason. Flynn, on the other hand, has been silenced through legal intimidation tactics. He cannot speak for himself, so others must make the case for him.”

For Americans who worry about how the pervasive surveillance powers of the U.S. government could be put to use criminalizing otherwise constitutionally protected speech and political associations, Flynn’s prosecution represents a troubling precedent. Besides the collateral damage inflicted on mid-level government officials such as retired Lt. Gen. Flynn facing personal destruction at the hands of federal prosecutors with unlimited budgets, there is this deepening pattern of using criminal law to settle political differences, a process more common in authoritarian states.

Holocaust survivor Elie Weisel said it best: “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must – at that moment – become the center of the universe.”

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service in the world, RWN offers the following information published by: Daily Caller

A norovirus outbreak is sweeping through a shelter for wildfire victims in Northern California, potentially causing diarrhea, fever and body aches in anyone who is infected, The Associated Press reports.

The norovirus is highly contagious and has prompted shelter workers to quarantine infected residents separate from others in the shelter. Staff cleaned the shelter with bleach Wednesday, according to the AP.

The victims of the virus are likely people displaced by the Camp Fire, the most deadly fire in state history after killing at least 56 people. The Camp Fire has wiped out more than 9,000 houses and commercial buildings. It had burned 140,000 acres and was 40 percent contained by Thursday morning, according to the state fire agency Cal Fire.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Brock Long met with Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown and emergency officials in California Wednesday. The Trump administration officials surveyed the wreckage of the Camp Fire, especially around Paradise, a town of about 27,000 that was 95 percent destroyed by the Camp Fire.

“Every time I come to California I say this is the worst fire I’ve seen. Once again this is the absolute worst,” Zinke said in Wednesday tweet. “Worse than any war zone I saw in Iraq. The heroism of firefighters is amazing.”

“We’ll be here for several years working this disaster,” Long said at a press conference after surveying Paradise, according to NBC News.

“The infrastructure is basically a total rebuild at this point,” Long said. “You’re not going to be able to rebuild Paradise the way it was.”

The Woolsey Fire, a major fire burning in Southern California, has consumed another 98,000 acres and was 57 percent contained by Thursday morning. It has killed at least two people and razed 600 structures, according to Cal Fire.

Trump Drops The Hammer! ‘A TOTAL WITCH HUNT LIKE NO OTHER IN AMERICAN HISTORY!’

President Trump isn’t anywhere near done with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He laid into him again over this witch hunt. In a couple of tweets, Trump called the investigation a total mess. He also called it a “witch hunt like no other in American history.”

Trump is sick of this investigation ruining lives and going nowhere all for something that never happened. The president held his tongue during the midterm elections but is dropping the hammer now. Sarah Palin has the scoop on Trump’s fight:

President Trump has renewed his criticisms of the ongoing investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

In a pair of tweets, the president called it a “total mess” and said it is a “witch hunt like no other in American history.”

“The inner workings of the Mueller investigation are a total mess,” Trump tweeted. “They have found no collusion and have gone absolutely nuts. They are screaming and shouting at people, horribly threatening them to come up with the answers they want.”

“They are a disgrace to our Nation and don’t care how many lives the ruin. These are Angry People, including the highly conflicted Bob Mueller, who worked for Obama for 8 years. They won’t even look at all of the bad acts and crimes on the other side. A TOTAL WITCH HUNT LIKE NO OTHER IN AMERICAN HISTORY!” he said.

Trump has routinely criticized the special counsel investigation but was mum on the issue leading up to the 2018 midterm elections. Instead, Trump used his social media platform to endorse political candidates and draw attention to a thousands-strong migrant caravan.

Here’s more, from Politico:

Trump’s broadsides against the Mueller investigation are some of the most direct in recent weeks, reviving past attacks against Mueller’s time as FBI director in the Obama administration, and calling for the investigation of unspecified “bad acts and crimes on the other side.”

Reuters on Tuesday reported that Trump and his legal team were finalizing the president’s answers to questions about Russian interference and that he would not be responding to inquiries about whether or not he sought to obstruct the probe.

Whether Trump would respond to questions from the special counsel has been a point of negotiation for over a year, as Trump has insisted he wants to sit for an interview, a move his legal team has advised against out of fear that the president might perjure himself.

Trump’s criticism also comes after an effort in the Senate to advance a protection bill was objected to by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

From the Hill:

A bill to protect the special counsel’s investigation into Russian election interference and possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow was blocked Wednesday by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who said earlier in the day that there was no threat to Mueller from the president.

Democrats, and some Republicans, called for the legislation to be passed in the wake of Trump ousting Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week and replacing him with acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, Sessions’s former chief of staff.
