It’s only been two days since George Bush Senior buried his best friend and the love of his life who he had been married to for 73 years. He was visibly upset and sobbing at her funeral, in a heartbreaking moment that was palpable. Now we’re learning that he can’t live without her and may soon be joining her.

Fox 2 Now reports:

Former President George H.W. Bush, who just buried his wife first lady Barbara Bush on Saturday, is in intensive care, CNN has learned.

“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant,” spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.

Bush was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning, he was suffering from an infection that led to sepsis, which can be life-threatening, according to a source close to the former President. He was in critical condition, the source said.

WCVB adds a statement from the family spokesperson:

A family spokesman said the 41st President of the United States was admitted to the hospital Sunday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood.

“President (H.W.) Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant.”

It’s bittersweet but clear that this dedicated husband misses the love of his life.
