How to handle illegal aliens has been a top topic of conversation among politicians for quite some time. While liberals tend toward wanting to embrace illegals and treat them to all the government assistance they can consume, this also leads them to point fingers at conservatives as if the right doesn’t like immigration.
The huge defining factor for conservatives is the difference between legal and illegal immigrants. America has a long history of welcoming immigrants, once the proper vetting process has been achieved. The reasons for that are multiple, but right at the top of the list is ensuring that criminals don’t immigrate here and take advantage of our freedoms. Possibly the second most important issue is the economic toll that is put on America when there’s a relentless flow of settlers taking advantage of government funding.
The debate changed drastically changed with the election of Donald J. Trump, who was elected in large part due to his economic background and history of excellent business growth. Many people hoped that the President would run the country like a business, and that necessitates getting a handle on the outflow of cash.
That outflow saw an incredible spike during the Obama administration, and a lot of it was flowing toward illegal immigrants, taking advantage of government programs that were meant for legal residents who had fallen on hard times. According to Breitbart News, the increase in food stamps alone is enough to make a taxpayers blood boil:
“The number of new immigrants on food stamps has more than tripled over the last decade, a study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals.
Between 2007 and 2017, food stamp usage by new immigrants to the United States has more than tripled from four percent in 2007 to 13 percent in 2017, CIS Director of Research Steven Camarotta finds in his latest study.
Native-born Americans’ food stamp usage increased as well, but not as much as new immigrants. For Americans, about six percent were on food stamps in 2007. In 2017, the number of native-born American households taking food stamps has ticked up to about ten percent.
The research means that new immigrants are now more likely than native-born Americans to use food stamps.
If an amnesty for illegal aliens enrolled in or eligible for the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program passed through the Republican-controlled Congress, about one in five amnesty recipients would end up on food stamps, Breitbart News reports.
Currently, the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants every year, with more than 70 percent coming to the country through chain migration. In the next 20 years, the current U.S. legal immigration system is on track to import roughly 15 million new foreign-born voters. Between seven and eight million of those foreign-born voters will arrive in the U.S. through chain migration.
The current inflow of millions of illegal and legal immigrants has kept labor cheap for big businesses while leaving American workers with stagnant and decreased wages for decades.”
That, as you can well imagine, is difficult enough for the economy to cope with. However, the argument is constantly made that illegals are often productive citizens, and making the country better just by being here. However, according to a recent interview with a southern California businessman, that’s not accurate either. His report of the working situation in CA is that illegals are destroying the supply and demand for workers in many fields:
“A whistleblower in the southern California construction industry says illegal alien workers have “taken over every trade” in the business while driving down wages by an estimated 40 percent.
In an interview with the group Progressives for Immigration Reform, a whistleblower who was an independent contractor throughout the 1980s and 1990s explains how the California construction industry transformed into one in which American men could make a middle-class living off blue-collar work to a business where wages have plummeted and illegal aliens dominate the field.
Blaine Taylor, the whistleblower, said the construction industry in California once offered a starting wage of about $45 an hour in the late 1980s. Fast-forward to 2018 — nearly two decades into when illegal aliens began flooding the industry — he now says that wages have fallen by more than half, standing at just $11 an hour.
Taylor says that the flood of illegal alien workers contributed to wages in the California construction industry plummetting between the 1980s to today.
Between 2008 and 2016, construction wages were actually lower than in 1998, representing a roughly 40 percent drop in pay. At the same time, construction materials, Taylor said, increased by about 50 percent.
Meanwhile, Taylor says that illegal aliens are dominating the blue-collar trades in the California construction industry, with an illegal alien population that potentially exceeds more than three million.”
Truth be told, immigrating illegally does make many people’s lives better, just not Americans.
