John McCain Stuck It To Trump In Final Request Before His Death

Published

on

I simply cannot stand it. John McCain passed away late yesterday at the age of 81. I try not to speak ill of the dead but with McCain, it’s next to impossible for me to do so. Everywhere in the media, it is a slobberfest over the guy this morning. Every politician is out there saying what a patriot and a hero John McCain was. I’m sorry… I just don’t see it that way.

Yes, he served his country with distinction according to most accounts, but it doesn’t excuse the way he behaved in the years that he was in politics. McCain sided more with liberals than conservatives. Most people I have heard from are just choosing to stay silent rather than go off over his passing.

President Trump who had remained silent over McCain stopping his treatment for his terminal brain cancer finally sent his condolences this morning to the McCain family. As with most politicians, they have to be diplomatic over the death of a high-profile politico like McCain. Here are the well-wishes from the White House over McCain’s passing:

“President Donald Trump: “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!”

“First lady Melania Trump: “Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to the McCain Family. Thank you, Senator McCain, for your service to the nation.”

“Vice President Mike Pence: “Karen and I send our deepest condolences to Cindy and the entire McCain family on the passing of Senator John McCain. We honor his lifetime of service to this nation in our military and in public life. His family and friends will be in our prayers. God bless John McCain.”

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions: “For John McCain, his country was his life. He was tireless in its service. Courage, determination, and relentless drive made him a great leader.

“‘To me, having served with him in the Senate for 20 years, his support for President Bush’s surge in Iraq at a time when things had been going badly and public support had eroded, was one of the most dramatic, important, patriotic, and selfless actions I had the honor to witness in that body. His presidential aspirations were entirely set aside. He totally deployed his considerable strength and energy to what he believed was best for his country—and in service to those then fighting valiantly for the mission the nation had given them. It was a very contentious debate. His personal dedication and leadership moved a very uncertain decision to a favorable outcome.

“‘His ferocious tenacity for his country was unmatched. America has lost one of its greatest patriots.'”

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. and receive a full dress funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral, The New York Times reported Saturday night. He will also lie in state at the Arizona Capitol in Phoenix, a Republican official who is involved with planning told the newspaper. He will then be buried in Annapolis, Maryland.

The honor to lie in the Capitol Rotunda has been bestowed on more than 30 people. Most recently, evangelist, Billy Graham received the honor in March after his passing. Lying in state there is seen as a gesture that is reserved for the country’s “most eminent citizens.” McCain is the 13th senator to receive the honor.

You might remember earlier this year when it was reported that both George Bush and Barack Obama were expected to deliver eulogies at McCain’s funeral. Those close to McCain have informed the White House that they plan to have Vice President Pence attend the senator’s funeral — but not President Trump. That’s is beyond the pale. It’s the McCain family’s choice so they get to say who is there and who isn’t but this strikes me as incredibly vindictive. Looks like McCain stuck it to Trump in one final request before he toddled off this mortal coil.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff and President Trump ordered the same for the White House flags. At least President Trump is showing the proper respect here and acting presidential. That doesn’t surprise me no matter how he felt about McCain.

John McCain, who was a Vietnam war veteran and a perceived giant of the Senate, died one day after his family announced that he would be discontinuing medical treatment for terminal brain cancer, stating that the “progress of the disease and the inexorable advance of age” had rendered “their verdict.” McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma in July of 2017.

McCain could have stepped down when he received his prognosis. He chose not to and held on until just after the last election ensuring that his wife Cindy will be appointed to take his place for the next two years. That wasn’t divine providence or happenstance, it was sheer will that brought it about.

May John McCain rest in peace and his family find comfort after his passing, but I will never forget his final request concerning President Trump.

THIS IS EVERYTHING.

Next time Trump nominates a Supreme Court Justice, it won’t be meek-n-mild Grassley heading the proceedings.

IT WILL BE LINDSEY 2.0.

According to this:

According to The Hill, “Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is poised to become the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) announced Friday that he would step down to take over the chairmanship of the Finance Committee.”

The shuffle would put Graham, a close ally of President Trump who made headlines this fall with a forceful denunciation of Democrats during Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, in charge of the panel handling judicial nominations.

Graham is up for reelection in 2020.

He praised Grassley’s leadership of the committee in a Tweet Friday.

“I very much appreciate Senate @ChuckGrassley’s leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He chaired the committee with a steady hand, sense of fundamental fairness, and resolve,” Graham tweeted. “His leadership serves as a model to us all.”

In a subsequent statement, Graham said he would make confirming conservative judges a top priority.

“If I am fortunate enough to be selected by my colleagues to serve as chairman, I will push for the appointment and Senate confirmation of highly qualified conservative judges to the federal bench and aggressive oversight of the Department of Justice and FBI,” he said.

Graham’s ascension to chairman must be ratified by his GOP colleagues on Judiciary, but that is considered merely a formality.

The South Carolina Republican will also have jurisdiction over the Department of Justice and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump administration.

Graham met Thursday with Matthew Whitaker, the acting attorney general whom Trump appointed to replace Jeff Sessions the day after the election.

Whitaker assured the senator that he saw no reason to fire Mueller, something that has been a top concern of Democrats and some Republicans since Sessions’s resignation.

YESSSSSSS.

“Boy y’all want power. You want this seat? I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can through this sham.”

Lindsey won’t let THAT happen again, will he?

AAAAAND that’s not all.

Sen. Graham will also have jurisdiction over the Department of Justice and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump administration. After meeting with acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker on Thursday, Graham said he is “confident” that Mueller will not be fired while his investigation is underway.”

INTERESTING.

JUST IN: 66 DEAD And Over 600 Missing – Trump’s About To Make An Appearance

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service in the world, RWN offers the following information published by Governor Palin:

“It is by far the most deadly single fire in California history and it’s going to get worse, unfortunately,” Thom Porter, chief of strategic planning for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said of the Camp Fire which continues to burn through Northern California.

Firefighters are doing all they can to contain a trio of tremendously destructive fires burning across the state leading to the deaths of at least 66 people. Schools have closed, communities have been ruined, and the air quality continues to worsen as people are inhaling fumes from the ravaging flames.

ABC News describes the Camp Fire in Northern California as the “deadliest and most destructive” of the group as it has killed at least 63 people and, as of Thursday night, there are at least 631 people missing as the result of the fire.

The death toll includes only areas where search crews have been able to comb through. As the fire passes and more areas are opened up for these crews, Porter said, the toll is expected to climb. At least 11,862 buildings have been absolutely destroyed as a result of the fires.

ABC News reports California Governor Jerry Brown described the fallout from the fires as a “war zone”:

Gov. Jerry Brown toured the devastation caused by the Camp Fire on Wednesday with Brock Long, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. The government leaders visited firefighters still battling the blaze, which burned 138,000 acres and obliterated the town of Paradise, destroying nearly every home in the community of 30,000 people.

“This is one of the worst disasters I’ve ever seen in my career, hands down,” Long said at a news conference Wednesday in Northern California.

Brown said the destruction “looks like a war zone.” He said he spoke earlier Wednesday to President Donald Trump, “who pledged the full resources of the federal government” to help in the recovery effort.

In a tweet, Governor-elect Gavin Newsom said: “Lives have been lost. Entire towns have been burned to the ground. Cars abandoned on the side of the road. People are being forced to flee their homes. This is not a time for partisanship. This is a time for coordinating relief and response and lifting those in need up.”

United States Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar declared a public health emergency, saying: “We are working closely with state health authorities and monitoring the needs of healthcare facilities to provide whatever they may need to save lives and protect health. This declaration will help ensure that Americans who are threatened by these dangerous wildfires and who rely on Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program have continuous access to the care they need.”

As ABC News also reports, President Trump is planning a visit to California to meet with victims and state officials.

“We mourn the lives of those lost and we pray for the victims. And there are more victims than anybody would ever even think possible,” Trump said at a Diwali ceremony on Tuesday. “I want to thank the firefighters and FEMA and first responders for their incredible courage in the face of very grave danger.”

“We will do everything in our power to support and protect our fellow citizens in harm’s way,” he added. “That’s a very tough situation.”
