One of the hottest headlines this week is that President Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen turned himself into the FBI after he allegedly struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors. Ostensibly, Cohen is said to have violated campaign finance laws which are murky at best and subject to a wide legal interpretation.
Cohen’s violation centers around a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels of over $100,000 in hush money. He made a statement that it was at the behest of the ‘candidate’ which seems to allude to President Trump. In the end, it is Cohen’s word against Trump’s. And if that is all it is based upon, it isn’t much.
After that dust-up, Democrats and the leftist media started crowing that this was the end of the Trump “regime” and that impeachment seems to be imminent. Personally, I think they have it all wrong. Considering their track record, they are hardly ones to be listened to in a situation such as this. It wasn’t that long ago that a Democratic presidential campaign was charged with much worse.
The source for this is surprisingly the Politico. In 2013, Maggie Haberman reported on the criminal campaign reporting violations against the Obama campaign. Yes, Barack Obama is guilty of said violations even though I contend that Trump is not. According to the Politico, the Obama campaign was fined $375,000 for those violations.
The Federal Elections Commission nailed President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign for campaign reporting violations. The $375,000 fine was one of the largest fees ever levied against a presidential campaign. Unsurprisingly, very few people were even aware of it thanks to the media and leftist Democrats. The fine was detailed in FEC documents. They arose from an audit of the campaign and the results were published in April of 2012.
From the Politico:
“’$375,000 is a huge fine,” said Republican election lawyer Jason Torchinsky. “It may one of their top five- or 10-largest fines.”
“But he added, “They’re also the first billion-dollar presidential campaign. Proportionally, it’s not out of line.”
“FEC officials declined to comment on the fee or the existence of the agreement. But for context, failed Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole set a record for FEC fines on his 1996 campaign when he paid $100,000 two years later.
“’At the time, the 2008 campaign was record-breaking, with over 3 million grassroots donors,” Obama campaign spokeswoman Katie Hogan said. “The very few outstanding questions about the $750 million that was raised have now all been resolved.”
“The major sticking point for the FEC appeared to be a series of missing 48-hour notices for nearly 1,300 contributions totaling more than $1.8 million — an issue that lawyers familiar with the commission’s work say the FEC takes seriously. The notices must be filed on contributions of $1,000 or more that are received within the 20-day window of Election Day.
“More than half of those contributions were transferred from the Obama Victory Fund,a joint committee between the campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
“Sources said the fine resulting from the settlement agreement has been paid, with $230,000 coming from the Obama campaign’s coffers and the remainder from the DNC.
“The document outlined other violations, such as erroneous contribution dates on some campaign reports. The Obama campaign was also late returning some contributions that exceeded the legal limit.
“For critics of the Obama campaign, the audit was a reminder of other reporting errors by the 2008 effort, which campaign officials said they tried to correct in real-time. But independent experts, including former FEC commissioner Michael Toner, said after the audit was released that the infractions were relatively minor, given the scope of the campaign.”
President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign failed to properly report about $2 million worth of last-minute campaign contributions. That’s huge. The Obama for America campaign committee didn’t file mandatory notices for about 1,300 contributions received just prior to the 2008 presidential election according to the audit.
Campaign finance laws mandate that candidates file notices within 48 hours of contributions of $1,000 or more received less than 20 days before the election. Most of the missing 48-hour notices came from a transfer on Oct. 24, 2008, from the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, the FEC found. The campaign did report the contributions, but not within the 48-hour time frame, according to the audit.
So, as everyone gets all hot and bothered over what may or may not be a campaign violation, it might serve the left as a reminder to look back at the Obama campaign and what they actually were charged with. There was no jail time imposed for that huge fine either. As I opined earlier, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz stated that Trump did not violate campaign finance laws, even if his former lawyer Michael Cohen did. “If the president had paid $280,000 to these two women — even if he had done so in order to help his campaign — that would be no problem,” Dershowitz told Fox News. “The candidate is entitled to contribute a million dollars to his own campaign, as long as he reports it.”
But you know who did violate campaign finance laws? Barack Obama did. Funny how that didn’t get headlines like Trump’s alleged violations are getting, isn’t it?
Sanders Hit Back HARD At Feinstein Over Kavanaugh – ‘Now It’s Clear Why She Did Nothing For Months’
The Brett Kavanaugh mess drags on and on and on. There is no credible proof in my opinion that anything he’s accused of is valid. And frankly, we should just move on with the nomination process. If we leave it up to the Democrats, they will balk, stall and obstruct until after the midterm elections and further still if given the chance.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders hit back hard at Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) earlier this week for her statements concerning sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. “Now clear why top Democrat on Senate Judiciary Committee did nothing with allegation for months or even ask Judge Kavanaugh about it,” Sanders tweeted. “Senator Feinstein just said ‘I can’t say everything’s truthful.'”
Ouch and perfectly put. Feinstein is covering her political behind here while trying to smear Kavanaugh in a last-ditch attempt to keep him from becoming a Supreme Court Justice. Feinstein told reporters on Capitol Hill that she couldn’t say that everything in Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations against Kavanaugh was “truthful.” That’s pretty damning and says it all right there.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted something very similar: “Could this explain why Feinstein held it for 2 months and when she realized he would otherwise be confirmed she threw a political Hail Mary? As the father of girls and boys this overt politicization is both very disturbing and alarming,” he wrote.
Feinstein is all of a sudden pushing these charges against Kavanaugh. She tried to clarify her comments to CNN by saying, “Based on what I know at this stage, she [Ford] is credible.” Really? I highly doubt that because the woman’s story keeps changing.
She can’t recall the year it happened, where it happened, when it happened, who hosted the party, who was there, who brought her or who took her home. See a pattern here? Do you call that credible?
Feinstein also tweeted that she considered Ford to be “sincere” and “believable.” Give me a freaking break. This desperate move is so transparent even a liberal can see it. This smacks of Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas all over again.
“During every step of this process, I’ve found every single piece of information from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford eminently credible, sincere and believable. She knew this would have a huge effect on her life and she was incredibly brave to come forward,” Feinstein said.

From The Hill:
“Ford says Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her and attempted to remove her clothes at a party in the early 1980s.
“Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
“Feinstein was the first to bring Ford’s accusations to the national stage when she announced one week before Kavanaugh’s scheduled confirmation hearing that she was bringing an accusation against him to the FBI.
“Feinstein has said that she has had Ford’s accusations since July, a point with which Republicans have taken great issue.
“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) ripped into Democrats on Monday for not bringing the issue forward until “the eleventh hour.”
“Republicans have scheduled a hearing for Ford’s allegations next Monday and have delayed the vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation, which they were expected to win.
“It is unclear what will come of Monday’s hearing, given that Ford’s lawyer has said she will not testify until an FBI investigation has been completed.”

President Trump is now weighing into this muck even further and doubling down on his support for Kavanaugh: “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”

A very astute point and one that Ford is going to have to answer. If she does not testify, Kavanaugh will almost certainly be confirmed. If she does testify, she’s going to have to prove her allegations.
Trump also tweeted: “The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?” Again, a very good point, however, the left will claim that many women don’t report sexual assault. I’m not buying that nonsense this time around.
Currently, Ford is making demands of Congress before testifying, including saying that Monday is a deal breaker as she cannot be ready by then. She’s had more than enough time to prep. Bring on the hearing.
“These issues include: the procedures for the hearing, including how many rounds of questioning, the scope of the examination and whether the Committee will subpoena Mark Judge, who Ford has said was in the room when the alleged incident took place; whether the Committee will agree that Kavanaugh not be present during Ford’s testimony; and what the committee will do to provide for safety.
“She said she “registered strong objection” to having the committee bring in outside counsel to question Ford.
“A senior Republican Senate staffer told CNN that following the call Thursday night, the GOP has two “non-starters” for her demands. The first is subpoenaing Judge or other witnesses. The staffer said that the Senate does not take subpoena requests from witnesses. The second “non-starter” is Ford’s demand that Kavanaugh testify first. Ford should testify first to give Kavanaugh the opportunity to respond, the source said.”
Kavanaugh has a right to face his accuser and he has a right to have legal counsel present. This whole thing is simply obstructionism and should not be allowed. #ConfirmKavanaughNow
Keith Ellison Accuser Posts Doctor’s Note PROOF; Media SILENT
DNC Vice Chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is no stranger to controversy. He is an uber-liberal that has found himself in political hot water more than once. But one thing that the Democrats are very good at is closing ranks. Even if they have to sacrifice one of their own to do it. After all, Ellison is now running for Attorney General in Minnesota.
While Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is being smeared and splashed all over the media, there is another far more credible #MeToo moment playing out in front of us and it is in the Democratic Party. Keith Ellison is being accused of assault and abuse and the Dems aren’t listening to or believing the woman leveling the charges even though she has records to back up her claims.
There is no foggy memory or bleary facts in this scenario. Karen Monahan has no trouble at all being very specific over the alleged abuse from Keith Ellison. Monahan, an environmental activist, and Ellison’s former girlfriend has claimed Ellison emotionally abused her and, at least once, physically abused her.
The Democrats are not standing by her at all either. They actually are turning on this woman. It’s breathtaking hypocrisy at play and it is being almost entirely ignored by the media.
From The Hill:
“I’ve been smeared, threatened, isolated from my own party,” Monahan tweeted. “I provided medical records from 2017, stating on two different Dr. Visits, I told them about the abuse and who did it. My therapist released records stating I have been dealing [with] and healing from the abuse.”
“Four people, including my supervisor at the time, stated that I came to them after and shared the exact story I shared publicly, I shared multiple texts between me and Keith, where I discuss the abuse with him and much more,” she wrote. “As I said before, I knew I wouldn’t be believed.”
“She wrote that coming forward was a “huge piece of my healing.” Monahan in the tweets tagged the Democratic National Committee and the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party.”
This is a woman who told her physician about the abuse in 2012. She even produced the doctor’s report as evidence and brought it forth as proof just to show consistency in her prior accounts of the situation. Crickets from the media.
From The Daily Caller:
“She states that she was in a very stressful environment for years, emotional and physical abuse by a partner with whom she is now separated,” reads the November 2017 report, a picture of which Monahan posted on Twitter.
“She did not have any physical injuries that required an examination in the past. She identifies the individual she was involved with as Congressman Ellison, and she is worried about retribution if she identifies him publicly,” the report states.
“Monahan’s son Austin Aslim Monahan first aired the allegations against Ellison on Aug. 11 and claimed to have seen evidence of Ellison’s abuse.
“I was using my moms computer trying to download something and I clicked on a file, I found over 100 text and twitters messages and video almost 2 min long that showed Keith Ellison dragging my mama off the bed by her feet, screaming and calling her a ‘f*cking b*tch’ and telling her to get the f*ck out of his house,” he wrote in a viral Facebook post.
“Monahan’s son added:
“Sitting all this time, watching what our mom went through and not being able to say or do anything was hard as hell. None of you know the hell our family has gone through. I don’t think half of you would even care. We watched her so-called political friends stand by say or do nothing. People had an idea what happened and never reached out to my mom. The same people who are posting about social justice are ready to smear my mom, protect a person who abused her and broke the law.”
“Monahan has yet to produce the alleged video, which Ellison has said doesn’t exist.”
UPDATE: This is a record of a 911 call from May 16, 2005. The caller reported she was assaulted by Keith Ellison. pic.twitter.com/Z080dzS702
— Jeff Kolb (@jpkolb) August 13, 2018
Unlike the woman accusing Kavanaugh, this sounds very credible and specific. This also isn’t the first time that Ellison has been accused of abuse. Back in 2005, Amy Alexader, who was another girlfriend of Ellison’s, alleged abuse by Ellison. There was also a 911 report backing that up.
The DNC, of course, said in August that they were “reviewing” the allegations. In other words, they did nothing and buried it, hoping it would all blow over. The Democratic Party has continued to stand by Ellison in his position and in his run for Attorney General. They simply cannot afford to lose him on their roster. They are that desperate. Ellison continues to deny all charges.
Monahan has said that she is willing to cooperate with any investigation. “I told the investigator I would be happy to talk with @keithellison [with] them in the room. They asked Keith if he would be willing [and] he declined any meeting [with] me,” Monahan said. I’m not surprised by that in the least and I’m sure Ellison has the DNC attorney on speed-dial these days just in case.
— Karen Monahan (@KarenMonahan01) September 17, 2018
Instead of this unfounded witch hunt against Kavanaugh, I think that Ellison’s clear record of alleged abuse should be front and center. Fight fire with fire. If Kavanaugh can be baselessly disparaged by the left at the eleventh hour of his confirmation, then fire both barrels at Ellison who certainly has the appearance of guilt here. What’s good for the political goose is good for the political gander.
