I guess the NFL did not learn anything from last season in regards to kneeling during the National Anthem. Last year, many games saw a massive drop in attendance and empty stadium seats. There was a big drop in revenue as well across the board. I thought perhaps this year we could put that all behind us and just play football again. Evidently, I thought wrong. President Trump is allegedly ticked that football players are still kneeling during the National Anthem and I don’t blame him in the least. They didn’t listen to him and now, Trump and America in their own way will make them pay for it.
Two Miami Dolphin receivers continued the “take a knee” demonstration into the 2018 NFL season. They did this even after the league said they would impose hefty penalties on players and teams who insisted on continuing to do so. Just last month the NFL suspended its new anthem policy, which mandated that players stay in the locker room if they wanted to protest. President Trump is calling for these players to be suspended and I agree with that sentiment. Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson took a knee during the National Anthem at the Miami Dolphins pre-season opener versus the Tampa Bay Bucs on Thursday. Other players were defiant as well and raised their fists in support of the protest. Wilson sat during the anthem once last season, refusing to stand while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 against the Houston Texans.
The first thing that President Trump tweeted this morning was to call for swift action against these two players and their activism on the gridiron. He warned them last year and they didn’t listen. “The NFL players are at it again – taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem,” Trump said. “Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their ‘outrage’ at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love. Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest. Most of that money goes to the players anyway. Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!”
I personally agree with Trump on this and it is hard to argue with what he is saying here. Colin Kaepernick, who started the movement, praised the players for being defiant. He offered the following message to the players: “Stay strong brothers.”
“Being a part of this protest hasn’t been easy,” Stills told WFOR. “I thought I was gonna be by myself out there and today I had an angel with me, with Albert (Wilson) being out there. I’m grateful that he sees what’s happening and he wants to stand up and do something about it as well.” Miami defensive end Robert Quinn raised a clenched right fist during the anthem. “As a black man in this world, I’ve got an obligation to raise awareness,” Quinn said after the game. “If no one wants to live in unity, that’s why we’re in the situation we’re in.” In my humble opinion, what these men are doing results in the exact opposite of what they claim to support.
From the Journal News:
“There has been no change in the NFL’s policy regarding the national anthem,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement issued Thursday night. “The anthem will continue to be played before every game, and all player and non-player personnel on the field at that time are expected to stand during the presentation of the flag and performance of the anthem. Personnel who do not wish to do so can choose to remain in the locker room.
“We remain committed to working with the players to identify solutions and to continue making progress on important social issues affecting our communities.
“In Seattle, three members of the Seahawks ran into the tunnel before the national anthem, according to The Associated Press.
“Defensive linemen Branden Jackson and Quinton Jefferson, and offensive lineman Duane Brown exited the field after team introductions and before the anthem. They returned to the sideline after the anthem ended.
“In Jacksonville, four Jaguars were not on the field when the anthem was played before their home game against New Orleans, ESPN reported. Linebacker Telvin Smith, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, running back Leonard Fournette and running back T.J. Weldon left the field and returned after the anthem.
“At Baltimore, both teams stood, but Ravens linebacker Tim Williams stood alone in front of the bench with his back toward the field, ESPN reported.”
It would appear that it is going to be another divisive and contentious football season. Many fans will sit this one out because of that fact. If these teams have any sense they will impose fines and suspend players who insist on disrespecting the National Anthem in this manner. They didn’t do it last year, I sincerely doubt they will do it this year. This country can’t do without our proud and strong military, but we can certainly do without activist sports players. They are about to learn that the hard way.
My brother @kstills continued his protest of systemic oppression tonight by taking a knee. Albert Wilson @iThinkIsee12 joined him in protest. Stay strong brothers!✊🏾

HUGE Sign Goes Up Outside Major NFL Stadium That Has All Disrespectful Players Panicking
The new season for the National Football League has just begun and one major stadium is already preparing. Although the league has announced that this coming season will be much different than the disastrous last one after imposing a new rule about kneeling, fans feel that it’s too late and are taking matters into their own hands to send a bold message.
If the unprecedented NFL boycott last season didn’t send disrespectful players a big enough message, then this warning sign that just went up probably will. Fans in Green Bay, Wisconsin are passionate about their Packers and the sport but many gave up their support after kneeling took over the game and went unpunished by top NFL executives. They’re hoping for something different this season, but aren’t taking any chances.
An impressive banner was created to get the blunt message out early and has just gone up right across the street from Lambeau Field in Green Bay along a home’s private fence that faces the stadium.
The warning is clear and simple and well-played with the play on how “pack” was used for Packers. The proud American(s) who put this up love their country more than their team and will pick respecting the flag over players any day. The message is also a reference to President Trump’s suggestion about kicking players out of America for disrespecting the country on the field.
Packers fans have a team they can be proud of which starts with their incredible coach who ensured his players aren’t like others in the league. They hope it stays that way, which is why the warning sign went up, considering that there will be some new players on the team this coming season. However, Coach Mike McCarthy isn’t going to let it slide any more than Packers fans.
Green Bay Packers and Coach Mike McCarthy has a much different approach to these disgusting protests than others in the league.
McCarthy doesn’t seem to agree with the Commissioner’s original apologetic approach and has something else planned for these anti-American stars who think they are going to get away with protesting on his field. They are paid millions to play a game – not make negative political statements.
Mike McCarthy doesn’t know if anyone on his sideline will join the ranks of NFL players using the national anthem as an opportunity to protest.
But if they do, the Green Bay Packers coach can say this for certain: They will do so with a knowledge of the history of the anthem and an understanding of how important he believes it is.
Last season, the coach was asked what he expects from his team when the anthem is played before each game. Rather than giving a politically correct answer of everyone having a right to free speech and to express how they somehow feel oppressed while making millions playing a game, he explained that he expects patriotism and good sportsmanship.
More importantly, McCarthy has taken it upon himself to educate his players on why we stand for the anthem since ignorance is why most of the idiotic athletes are sitting or kneeling on the sidelines. He’s putting knowledge of the real history of this nation on the field to stop players from making fools of themselves with protests.
When entitled, disrespectful players from other teams show up to his field, they are going to see what real men who respect this nation look like. In turn, those sitting out will look stupid in the shadows of the heroes standing for the anthem.
McCarthy said he addresses the anthem and his expectation of proper decorum during it with the players via a preseason presentation.
“It’s something that I’ve done each and every year here since I’ve been the head coach,” McCarthy said. “We have a PowerPoint presentation that you update (each year), and you always try to deliver the message clearly to the team.
“Our approach has always been to give the history and the understanding of what the national anthem means, and why it’s played before any National Football League game, particularly how (the tradition) started after World War II. I go through the whole history and the importance of what it means to you personally.”
This is the exact stance that every coach of every team should take since the NFL Commissioner refused to prioritize patriotism over the sport.
The Dallas Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, recently came out with the same stance as McCarthy, saying that the National Anthem is “sacred” and he expects his team to stand.
The Packers coach recognizes that the problem most of the players have is that they don’t understand what they think they are protesting by sitting out the anthem. That not only makes the player look stupid but is an embarrassment to the entire team and the NFL.
It’s nice to see two teams with their priorities straight and it’s a shame that so many other coaches and players in the NFL have tainted the reputation of the sport, leading to many spectators boycotting the season. Other teams should take note and run their operation like McCarthy and Garrett – with respect and honor for our flag and freedom and the real heroes who gave their life defending both.
NFL Team Replaces American Flag With Enraging New Version – Grossly Unacceptable
As TV ratings dwindle, stadiums suffered from low attendance this weekend – as photos of thousands of empty seats make their way around social media, and football season gears up, players choosing to take a knee in protest during the National Anthem shows no sign of abating. Meanwhile, the NFL itself continues to be utterly tone-deaf to the majority of America.
A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 54% of Americans polled believe kneeling during the National Anthem is inappropriate. Only 44% state they do not mind the kneeling players, according to the Washington Times. The poll revealed that those that no longer choose to follow the NFL as a result of the protest had grown by 10% since the last time the poll was taken in 2014.
Even as much of the mainstream media and sports media alike continue to loudly support protests and players insist that it is their First Amendment right to conduct them, it appears that for all intents and purposes they have failed to convince the rest of America of their message. Many have chosen to simply tune out rather than continue to support what they view as complete disrespect for combat veterans, the fallen and their families.
Those choosing to protest and their supporters insist that the protests are not about any offense to the military but while perhaps they do not intend to do so, that is exactly what they are doing. And, since the NFL’s future depends on selling overpriced ad spots to massive corporations looking for a consistent number of eyeballs, alienating any group of viewers, for whatever reason, is just bad for business.
Consistent with the tone-deaf message of the NFL, the Green Bay Packers management made an epic blunder in their recent choice to display a rather odd looking variation on the American flag. During the pre-game ceremony, Green Bay Packers displayed a made-up version of the American flag during the National Anthem, which was three solid color stripes with the blue stripe containing the stars.
Social media exploded with those fans that still choose to follow the NFL and the Packers with commentary ranging from that “what in the world is that?” to “that’s not my flag!”

The message was loud and clear. That is not the American flag and the Green Bay Packers should get rid of this banner immediately. Perhaps this might be the one occasion where taking a knee during the National Anthem might be acceptable and appropriate?
Pictures of the pregame ritual before the Green Bay Packers-Buffalo Bills matchup on Sunday went viral after several fans at Lambeau Field snapped photos of a red, white and blue flag with modified stars and stripes.
Either way, it seems Green Bay got the message as the team announced directly after the game that it will no longer use the “banner,” according to Fox 11.

As the local news affiliate reports:
“During the National Anthem, the team used a red, white and blue banner. The banner had stars on the blue stripe.
“It’s not American, not American at all,” said Sandy Austin. “There are a lot of people who have quit the NFL because of the pre-game stuff and all that’s going on.”
“In a statement, Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey said the banner was not meant to represent the American flag.
“‘The banner used during Sunday’s pregame ceremony supplemented the three U.S. flags on the roof of the stadium and the flag carried by the color guard on the field. We’ve used such displays from time to time in the past when other pregame elements take up a significant portion of the field. To avoid causing confusion, we will not be using such displays in the future.'”
The #GreenBayPackers used this for the #American flag in pregame festivities! I guess it’s not enough to disrespect the flag by kneeling now the @NFL allows a team to completely reconstruct our national flag! Reason enough to #BoycottTheNFL! @RealJamesWoods @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/xSln7G2qgV

According to Packers management, the University Of Wisconsin marching band featured approximately 200 members and they claim the marching band took up too much of the field to unveil the entire full American flag.
But that explanation was not flying for many Americans and the Green Bay Packers will no longer use the fictional flag banner. For the most part, the Packers have not chosen to actively participate in the “take the knee” protests during the National Anthem though they did choose to lock arms during one Thursday night game last season.
— David Croom (@dailycallout) September 30, 2018
NFL franchise owners’ support for the “take the knee” protests appear to be very much contingent on ratings and revenues, and many believe they will only continue to tolerate the protests as long as they do not negatively impact the bottom line. Case in point, the almost immediate decision to cease using the pseudo-flag in the representation of America.
NFL owners are nothing if not businessmen, so as Americans continue to hit them in their wallets by voting with their dollars, choosing to tune out or simply not attend the games, nothing is likely to change. Until attendance declines precipitously or it can be determined that the protests have directly impacted the bottom line and/or a corresponding decline in television ratings, they are unlikely to put their foot down.
